As much as I enjoy and appreciate the pattern mixing trend, this is NOT something I do well or don with confidence. But, what the heck….here goes.
Florals & Polka Dots.
Jacket & Pants: Ann Taylor Blouse: Patterson J. Kincaid Shoes: Anne Klein Bag: Chanel
I’ve kept the colors monochromatic….baby steps. Kudos to women who manage to mix colors, patterns and even textures with style and ease.
What do you think? Do you mix?

For cat lovers….
Friendship isn’t about who you have known the longest.
It’s about those who came and never left your side.
I am not a mixer either, and I cringe when I have to figure out if it works or not. So I’ll ask my fashionista daughter, and she’ll give the thumbs up or thumbs down. I really love this mix of the black and white polka dot blouse and the pants. My kind of outfit. I would wear that!
P.S. That kitten is too cute! He made a friend for life.
great outfit! love the mix 🙂
ps. the 3rd and 5th cat/bird pics are a-ma-zing!
You have created a perfect mix , very subtle yet striking at the same time! Your outfit is very elegant, I could happily steal your style head to toe! Thanks for dropping by my blog , I appreciate your comments!
Fab mix Jeannie – you make it look easy. I feel a little more comfortable mixing textures than patterns. Hope your weekend is fabulous.
you look great! good job with the pattern mixing. i love polka dots with everything and florals seem to mix well with stuff too. i think stripes are the easiest to mix though. i LOVE pattern mixing. it’s so much fun. i do like playing with wild colors too 🙂
Ooooh! This IS scary! Like Graduate School-level fashion courses would be! But you pulled it off, i think! Keeping it subtle, and in the same color group made it work! I never mix patterns – unless i accidently have a “Sea Monkeys” t-shirt with a pair of Syracuse sweatpants!
You are rocking the pattern mixing–love it!1
and the kitten and the parrotkeet–how ADORABLE!!
You picked the perfect combinations to mix. It looks amazing!!
You look like a pro at pattern mixing to me! I love this look on you. Thank you for joining Adrienne and me for “How I Wear My: Metallics,” your silver Tod’s bag is great! And this kitty and parakeet photo is amazing. We had a parakeet that looked just like this one, named Sylvia (and we also had her male partner Ted, and yes they were named for the poets Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes). I can’t believe they would trust each other enough for the last photo. Wow! XO, Jill
LOVED your pattern mixing, very chic! and you pulled it all together with that beautiful Chanel.
Kitty and bird = awesomeness.
You are so constantly classy looking. I don’t know how else to say it- you always look chic and uptown. I love that not only did you step outside your comfort zone, you hit a home run first try. WHAT A GREAT outfit! I love the dots, the florals, of course, but you really made the look yours. And you look cool-as-fuck- in your white blazer and monochrome palette. You rule.
I am still outside the mix print band wagon.. I love seeing how fabulously others are doing but just not brave enough to try. God forbid I might look like a bad clown instead of stylish like you and the rest! I guess I have to take a step at a time.. first get a printed pants then mix with another printed top.. we’ll see LOL! You look so effortless here I’m a bit green 😉 That bag doesn’t help! 😉
GREETINGS FROM DUBAI
MRS JACK OF ALL TRADES
Well done Jeannie. Totally elegant. I love people who are able to mix patterns and colours. (Tea Time) Trina and Lisa (Respect the shoes) are masters at that. I am hopeless. Tried it once with a yellow cardigan with black polka dots and a black blouse with cream polka dots. The idea was good, the execution terrible. The neck of the blouse was bad for me and the shape of the cardigan as well. I got so carried away by the fact I finally came up with a pattern mix myself that I ignored the rest.
And thanks for the cat photos. I am a cat lover.
Jeannie, I am not a fan of mixing prints but you did a great job of showing how subtle use of prints can work. You look great!!
You rocked this it!
I love pattern mixing in every way which really probably wouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, as i am not big on following rules and instead follow how i feel! Fashion should be fun, so i greet it as such 😉
Oh, yes. Perfectly done, as always. Enviable and so well styled. I’d imagine, from what I know of your wardrobe, that you have lots of possibilities for mixing. Will watch and learn with interest! Sweet for kitty lovers and keet lovers as well. I have both and they are not so friendly … one can dream, though!
Hello, hello! I love the pattern mixing. You wear it well, I’m afraid I’d look like I was coming and going if I tried it! Our daughter is graduating in a few weeks, do you remember those days? I’m so busy I feel like the room is spinning…I wish I could sit back and enjoy it more.
Take care, Jeannie!
Elisa, I DO remember those days! Mixed emotions and all…
Congratulations to your daughter! If you get lonely after she leaves, give me a shout, and I’ll meet you for a shopping spree! 😀
Mixed patterns AND emotions! I would love to get together for a day of shopping and friendship. Let’s count on it!
Aww, what a cute kitten and friend!
I think you did a great job with pattern mixing. Stripes and dots always look good next to florals if the scale and colors match. It occurred to me one day that men pattern mix often with striped or checked shirts and patterned ties. If they can do it, it shouldn’t be too hard, right? : )
Love what you put together here
Very subtle pattern mixing and these two patterns were just made for each other
Love the floral print with the polka dots. You look fabulous! I can do stripes and dots together but after that, not much. Also love the cat and bird pictures — made me smile 🙂

Jeannie, you did a very good job! I love your outfit, every piece of it. The mixuture is amazing and you are looking beautiful as always!
Baby cat makes my smile 😀
Your pattern mixing skills are amazing!! I’m still in the baby steps phase of mixing my patterns too so I completely understand, but keeping the colors neutral and adding the white blazer really kept this look pulled together well. Great job!
You wear it so well! I think the mono-crome is key, as well as the subtlely of the dots on the blouse.
Looks great, I love that blouse!
I think you totally succeeded – you look gorgeous! And is that navy reissue – if so, we’re bag twins! 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration!
I love the way florals and stripes/polka dots and geo patterns mix well!! For spring specially this trend looks so gorgeous! You look elegant, classy and so very beautiful! Hope you are having a wonderful day!

You do this very well I must say & love the sheerness of the polka dots! I love to mix things up!
Pattern mixing does cheer up life, so yes I do! I think a monochromatic look is a great start, but I might warn you – you might get addicted 😉 Jeannie, you look great as usual!
It definitely works as you’ve get the same colour flow from top to bottom. Love it!
So I am not a good pattern mixer. I have been living in a monochromatic bubble for a very long time. Still not sure if I can break out. I have to say though, this is a killer outfit! You did great. 🙂
It’s a brave and bold proposal. It’s not easy mixing polka dots and flowers. You’ve got, because the two pieces are lovely, pants and blouse. They both look lovely. You are very stylish with this outfit. The shoes and bag are very nice. A gorgeous look.
You do it well!!! Love this outfit and you look outstanding!! I’ll have to check my wardrobe to see if I can find some black and white patterns to mix, monochromatic looks classy! Hope you don’t mind me copying you, but you are an inspiration!!
Pura vida!! (my new expression from Costa Rica)
I think you have mastered the pattern mix, Jeannie! Well done!
Your pattern mixing choices are so subtle with the top – I think you did a stellar job, and look very put together in your photos – great look! I, too, am reluctant to mix it up, even though I really have the urge to give it a try…
Small print with a large print. You got it and it looks fab on you.
Jeannie, I think you did a great job mixing patterns! And, I really love the sweet kitty! 🙂
I see pattern mixing all the time but like you, have never been confident in my choice to do it but you nailed it!!! Perfection! As a lover of animals and cats in particular, I love those pics as well!
Nailed it, as always. You look beautiful Jeannie!
You pulled this off perfectly in your typical classy Jeannie style! I’d expect nothing less. Absolutely chic!
I love mixing patterns! How you mixed yours is lovely – wonderful and classy and looks great on you!
Well, I think you did that mixing very well. Gorgeous! I am coveting white blazers right now.
I always get the impression cats don’t kill birds deliberately, but that they just want to play with them and it never goes that well. Adorable kitty photos.
I think you have been very clever here by keeping it monochrome, your look is just perfect! Mixing colours and patterns is quite a hard look to pull off successfully……..I tend to leave that to the cool young kid’s! xx Love for you to check out my blog.
Oh Jeannie…..I just love the photo of the kitten with the canary! (Maybe not a canary!)
Your outfit works well. I’m not a pattern mixer either, but your outfit works well, I think because you keep it in the black and white color palette. You look wonderful as always!
I love your baby steps approach and your smartness to start off with one of the most chic combinations-florals and polka dots. What made my day was the photo with the bird and the cat. So filled with emotions!!!!
Jeannie – I love this simple color palette with the pattern mixing. You know I am both a fan of color & pattern mixing. I am still not brave enough to wear floral pants yet – but they look so good on you. Have a wonderful week!
I haven’t done much print mixing myself, but I do love how it looks! Cute cat photos! For a second I was worried about the bird… glad to see that they are friends!
I think you might have a knack for pattern mixing!! This is a great start and I’d love to see some more. You’ll always do it with style, I have full confidence. XXOO
Jeannie, you look like a pro, mixing polka dots and florals. I seldom pattern mix, but these photos tempt me to give it a try.
You look like you’ve been pattern-mixing forever – great outfit!
I was going to comment about the outfit (lovely) but then I scrolled down to a CAT. I love cats. And now I have forgotten what I was going to say about your look. 😉
Jeannie, I LOVE it! And, as you well know, I’m really into pattern mixing. You really hit this one right on, perfect way to mix black and white and so very classy.
Looks great together, I like it! The pants are super cool
Flawless, Jeannie, as always. Chic, chic, chic 😉
I think it looks great! Similar colors and pattern size–it all works! Now you know you can do it!
It worked well.
Darling kitty pictures! You wear it well .. but I totally understand about trying to make this work. I’m NOT adventurous when it comes to clothing so I’ve never tried it. I think the patterned jeans are really cute!
It’s no surprise you did it beautifully, Jeannie, because you have marvelous style and taste! Thanks for sharing this great look with Visible Monday. xoxox
Beautiful outfit and very elegant style. You blouse is so unique, you look great! The kitten and bird is so sweet.
blue hue wonderland
I do like to mix pattern but am not too adventurous on that front.
You did a great job! Love the flowers and polka dots together! 🙂
You always manage to make the newest trends beautiful!
I think you did a great job! I’m definitely not great at mixing patterns. That cat and bird are awesome.
Jeannie, (again) I am so with you. I have never worn a pattern mix myself but you have done with great style! Very inspirational – I absolutely love your look!!
Thank you so much for all your recent comments which mean a lot to me.
