Pattern Mixing

Hello everyone!

As much as I enjoy and appreciate the pattern mixing trend, this is NOT something I do well or don with confidence.  But, what the heck….here goes.

Florals & Polka Dots.

Jacket & Pants: Ann Taylor  Blouse: Patterson J. Kincaid  Shoes: Anne Klein   Bag: Chanel

I’ve kept the colors monochromatic….baby steps.  Kudos to women who manage to mix colors, patterns and even textures with style and ease.

What do you think?  Do you mix?

  1. I am not a mixer either, and I cringe when I have to figure out if it works or not. So I’ll ask my fashionista daughter, and she’ll give the thumbs up or thumbs down. I really love this mix of the black and white polka dot blouse and the pants. My kind of outfit. I would wear that!

P.S. That kitten is too cute! He made a friend for life.

  2. You have created a perfect mix , very subtle yet striking at the same time! Your outfit is very elegant, I could happily steal your style head to toe! Thanks for dropping by my blog , I appreciate your comments!

  3. Ooooh! This IS scary! Like Graduate School-level fashion courses would be! But you pulled it off, i think! Keeping it subtle, and in the same color group made it work! I never mix patterns – unless i accidently have a “Sea Monkeys” t-shirt with a pair of Syracuse sweatpants!

  4. You look like a pro at pattern mixing to me! I love this look on you. Thank you for joining Adrienne and me for “How I Wear My: Metallics,” your silver Tod’s bag is great! And this kitty and parakeet photo is amazing. We had a parakeet that looked just like this one, named Sylvia (and we also had her male partner Ted, and yes they were named for the poets Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes). I can’t believe they would trust each other enough for the last photo. Wow! XO, Jill

  5. You are so constantly classy looking. I don’t know how else to say it- you always look chic and uptown. I love that not only did you step outside your comfort zone, you hit a home run first try. WHAT A GREAT outfit! I love the dots, the florals, of course, but you really made the look yours. And you look cool-as-fuck- in your white blazer and monochrome palette. You rule.

  6. I am still outside the mix print band wagon.. I love seeing how fabulously others are doing but just not brave enough to try. God forbid I might look like a bad clown instead of stylish like you and the rest! I guess I have to take a step at a time.. first get a printed pants then mix with another printed top.. we’ll see LOL! You look so effortless here I’m a bit green 😉 That bag doesn’t help! 😉

  7. Well done Jeannie. Totally elegant. I love people who are able to mix patterns and colours. (Tea Time) Trina and Lisa (Respect the shoes) are masters at that. I am hopeless. Tried it once with a yellow cardigan with black polka dots and a black blouse with cream polka dots. The idea was good, the execution terrible. The neck of the blouse was bad for me and the shape of the cardigan as well. I got so carried away by the fact I finally came up with a pattern mix myself that I ignored the rest.
And thanks for the cat photos. I am a cat lover.

  8. You rocked this it!

I love pattern mixing in every way which really probably wouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, as i am not big on following rules and instead follow how i feel! Fashion should be fun, so i greet it as such 😉

  9. Oh, yes. Perfectly done, as always. Enviable and so well styled. I’d imagine, from what I know of your wardrobe, that you have lots of possibilities for mixing. Will watch and learn with interest! Sweet for kitty lovers and keet lovers as well. I have both and they are not so friendly … one can dream, though!

  10. Hello, hello! I love the pattern mixing. You wear it well, I’m afraid I’d look like I was coming and going if I tried it! Our daughter is graduating in a few weeks, do you remember those days? I’m so busy I feel like the room is spinning…I wish I could sit back and enjoy it more.
    Take care, Jeannie!

    • Elisa, I DO remember those days! Mixed emotions and all…
Congratulations to your daughter! If you get lonely after she leaves, give me a shout, and I’ll meet you for a shopping spree! 😀

  11. Aww, what a cute kitten and friend!

I think you did a great job with pattern mixing. Stripes and dots always look good next to florals if the scale and colors match. It occurred to me one day that men pattern mix often with striped or checked shirts and patterned ties. If they can do it, it shouldn’t be too hard, right? : )

  12. Love the floral print with the polka dots. You look fabulous! I can do stripes and dots together but after that, not much. Also love the cat and bird pictures — made me smile 🙂

  13. Jeannie, you did a very good job! I love your outfit, every piece of it. The mixuture is amazing and you are looking beautiful as always!
Baby cat makes my smile 😀

  14. Your pattern mixing skills are amazing!! I’m still in the baby steps phase of mixing my patterns too so I completely understand, but keeping the colors neutral and adding the white blazer really kept this look pulled together well. Great job!

  15. Pattern mixing does cheer up life, so yes I do! I think a monochromatic look is a great start, but I might warn you – you might get addicted 😉 Jeannie, you look great as usual!

  16. So I am not a good pattern mixer. I have been living in a monochromatic bubble for a very long time. Still not sure if I can break out. I have to say though, this is a killer outfit! You did great. 🙂

  17. It’s a brave and bold proposal. It’s not easy mixing polka dots and flowers. You’ve got, because the two pieces are lovely, pants and blouse. They both look lovely. You are very stylish with this outfit. The shoes and bag are very nice. A gorgeous look.

  18. You do it well!!! Love this outfit and you look outstanding!! I’ll have to check my wardrobe to see if I can find some black and white patterns to mix, monochromatic looks classy! Hope you don’t mind me copying you, but you are an inspiration!!

Pura vida!! (my new expression from Costa Rica)

  19. Your pattern mixing choices are so subtle with the top – I think you did a stellar job, and look very put together in your photos – great look! I, too, am reluctant to mix it up, even though I really have the urge to give it a try…

  20. I see pattern mixing all the time but like you, have never been confident in my choice to do it but you nailed it!!! Perfection! As a lover of animals and cats in particular, I love those pics as well!

  21. You pulled this off perfectly in your typical classy Jeannie style! I’d expect nothing less. Absolutely chic!

  22. Well, I think you did that mixing very well. Gorgeous! I am coveting white blazers right now.

I always get the impression cats don’t kill birds deliberately, but that they just want to play with them and it never goes that well. Adorable kitty photos.

  23. I think you have been very clever here by keeping it monochrome, your look is just perfect! Mixing colours and patterns is quite a hard look to pull off successfully……..I tend to leave that to the cool young kid’s! xx Love for you to check out my blog.

  24. Oh Jeannie…..I just love the photo of the kitten with the canary! (Maybe not a canary!)
Your outfit works well. I’m not a pattern mixer either, but your outfit works well, I think because you keep it in the black and white color palette. You look wonderful as always!

  25. I love your baby steps approach and your smartness to start off with one of the most chic combinations-florals and polka dots. What made my day was the photo with the bird and the cat. So filled with emotions!!!!

  26. I haven’t done much print mixing myself, but I do love how it looks! Cute cat photos! For a second I was worried about the bird… glad to see that they are friends!

  27. Jeannie, you look like a pro, mixing polka dots and florals. I seldom pattern mix, but these photos tempt me to give it a try.

  28. I was going to comment about the outfit (lovely) but then I scrolled down to a CAT. I love cats. And now I have forgotten what I was going to say about your look. 😉

  29. Darling kitty pictures! You wear it well .. but I totally understand about trying to make this work. I’m NOT adventurous when it comes to clothing so I’ve never tried it. I think the patterned jeans are really cute!

  30. Jeannie, (again) I am so with you. I have never worn a pattern mix myself but you have done with great style! Very inspirational – I absolutely love your look!!

Thank you so much for all your recent comments which mean a lot to me.
