Hi everyone!
I spent half a day yesterday cleaning & switching out seasonal wardrobe in my closet…what a pain. Thank you Paula for giving me the push! 🙂 Away with my favorite linen summer pieces & hello to boots & sweaters. While organizing, I found this very old polka dot blouse which occupied a space in my closet for a long time but rarely have seen the light of day. Usually, I would wear this with a skirt or a pair of dress slacks, but I wanted to create a weekend look. What do ya think?

feeling a little antique today….

I want to share an interesting article from the Journal of Medicinal Food from 2006 titled “The effects of grapefruit on weight and insulin resistance.” The study measured results after 12 weeks of 91 obese patients broken down into: 1. a placebo group, 2. a group that received a half of a fresh grapefruit before each meal (3x a day), 3. a group that received an 8 oz glass of grapefruit juice before each meal, and 4. a group that received a grapefruit capsule before each meal.
It turned out that grapefruit before a meal DID in fact increase fat loss, with the fresh grapefruit group losing the most weight, although even the grapefruit juice group and the grapefruit capsule group lost more than the placebo group.
The study concluded, “There was also a significant reduction in 2-hour post-glucose insulin level in the grapefruit group compared with placebo. Half of a fresh grapefruit eaten before meals was associated with significant weight loss. Insulin resistance was improved with fresh grapefruit.“
I remember hearing about grapefruit diets a long time ago but filed it away with most of the fad diets that have come and gone. But, I’m a little intrigued after reading the results of this study. I have just put grapefruits on my grocery list…will let you know how that goes! 😉

So wearable! I know what I’m going to try with my turquoise jeans next time.
The combination of the polka dot blouse and the green pants is gorgeous. I have a similar polka dot blouse…but I’m skinnies don’t work on my curves. I need to have a bit of grapefruit every day to help take care of that!
Love that polka dotted shirt Jeannie! It looks great with green. I think polka dots are a neutral now. 🙂
That polka dot shirt is beautiful!
I love the color combo of black, white and green!! and the polka dot blouse looks fabulous with the green pants!!
I adore grapefruit but i take a medicine that has side effects when you eat grapefruit-bummer!
Thanks Tamera!
That’s awful! So you can’t eat grapefruits ever? That is a bummer!
I adore polka dots and have a black and white one similar to this but am currently on the hunt for a white and black polka dot blouse. I love how you’ve ‘dressed it down’ with the jeans. very stylish. Please tell me – why on earth would you need to eat grapefruits? You’re so slim and trim!
I’m considering turquoise and peach jeans … only considering at the moment.
Enjoy the weather switch … hope your autumn is beautiful.
I love color denims! Turquoise & peach would be great for spring! You know, I do have to watch what I eat…..my metabolism isn’t what it used to be. If eating grapefruits will help maintain my weight, I’m all in! 🙂
Enjoy your spring!!
LOVE that polka dotty top! And that dog in the dishwasher is TOO CUTE!
XOXO

Thanks Daisy!
It is a darling photo.
That is an awesome combination!! Perfect for a weekend look! And I just might have to discover a taste for grapefruit.
Thank you Jeanine!
Sprinkle a little Truvia on top and it’s delish!
This is a great look, and thanks for the idea! I have a similar blouse that I haven’t worn in a long time and I think it would look great with colored jeans. I just need to find this great shade of green. Love it!
My dogs usually take advantage of the open dishwasher, but they never take this far. I would crack up if I found them in there!!
I haven’t worn this blouse much b/c I thought it made me look old. I like it better with jeans. Does it make me look younger? 😉
After our conversation, I’m really missing my kids….
The green jeans are so cool. The polka dots are so full of energy and fun. I have been eating more almonds, walnuts apples, nectarines and pears as well as other fruit. Have to work in more grapefruit.
Thanks JT!
I’m also a big fan of almonds and walnuts. I love almond milk, and my salads are always topped with walnuts!
I do need to eat more fruits, including grapefruits. 🙂
love this look and the polkadots! 🙂

Hi Chioma!
Thank you for stopping by! I see you like polka dots, too!
Congratulations to you and your sweetheart on your engagement! 🙂
I need to try to replicate this, that is how much I like it!
What an amazing comment! Thank you so much!
i can’t believe that little top has been hiding away in your closet
love it and the way you styled it
brett
Thanks Brett!
Well, it’s hanging where I can see it now! 🙂
Lucky you for finding that cute polka dot blouse hiding in your closet. I love how you take an on-trend item and turn it into a look that many of us can feel good about attempting. Bravo.

Hi Laura!
You give me too much credit, but I appreciate it very much. Thank you!
what a beautiful finding in your wardrobe! so the clearing was worthwhile. you look fantastic in your weekend look! nice to see maya again, she’s becoming jaunty.
Danke, Sabine!
I do find forgotten pieces all the time. I have clothing in three closets and the saying “out of sight, out of mind” definitely applies in my case.
The doggie in the dishwasher is not Maya. Hubby found the photo on the internet and thought is was funny. Maya is growing up to be a pretty little lady tho. My son sends me photos all the time. 🙂
You look lovely and the blouse looks so romantic!
I need to organize my wardrobe, I have a dressingroom and still not enough space!!
I love grapefruit!! mmmmm
Thank you, Carmen! Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
I have a pretty big closet but it could always be bigger! 😀
Can’t wait to see your organized dressingroom!
Wow love it!!! ^_^
Kim,USA
Thanks Kim!!
Are we psychic twins? I spent half the day yesterday cleaning out my closet for the seasonal wardrobe swap yesterday too! That’s a great find you’ve got there. I didn’t really run across anything that I fell in love with over again. 🙂
And next, you can NOT be 50!!! Wow, please share your secret to looking so incredible! Beautiful family and Tobi looks like a sweetheart.
Alison
Too funny! I just left you a comment about how YOUNG you look!
Thank you for visiting, and I hope to get to know you better!
I love the sleeves on your blouse. So feminine. The look is casual, yet elegant. Very nice!
Cheers,

Walking in Pretty Shoes
Hi Tammy!
It’s hard to be elegant and casual, but that’s my favorite look when I can achieve it, so thank you!
Love this outfit! I just picked up some kelly green skinny jeans that I am loving. Who knew green could be so useful?
I love grapefruit but haven’t eaten in a while. I think it’s time I add it back to my rotation. I try to live a Paleo lifestyle so I don’t eat any grains or sugar in my diet.
Thanks Alice!
I know! Green jeans?? I do like colored & printed jeans so bring it on!
No grains or sugar? I’m not disciplined enough for that, but I’ll be eating more grapefruit! 😀
This top works well with the pretty green pants. I just purchased green pants, but I wish they were a richer green like yours. Interesting grapefruit results. I have no idea what my insulin levels are, but I do know if I don’t eat something by 11am ish I feel like I’m going to pass right out. I always figured I was a bit hypoglycemic. My daughter is the same way.
Thanks Lisa!
Maybe you should try eating 1/2 of grapefruit with your breakfast and see if it improves your symptoms. I wish it also boosts your energy like caffeine so I can wean myself from coffee. 😀
I love the green pants, and the doggie in the dishwasher 🙂
Thanks Mandy!
The polka dots with the green jeans are a wonderful look, Jeannie. The dog in the dishwasher is making me laugh too hard! Thanks for sharing it all with Visible Monday : >
Thank you, Patti!
Glad it made you laugh….I thought it was adorable!
Cute top! And thank you for the grapefruit diet information. I actually love grapefruit so maybe I will give this a go.
Thanks Heather!
Me, too! Hope Rockefeller is doing better??
What a lovely blouse! Love love it and the ruffles at the bottom of the sleeves are terrific. I think it goes perfectly well with your green pant. What about a black gypsy style skirt with it? Would be neat too I think for a weekend look…
xo,
Anne
Hi Anne,
Pairing black/white polka dots with green is a new one for me. Normally, I would wear black with it. This is my attempt to be a little more colorful. Hubby thinks I have too many black & neutrals in my closet.
Actually, I do have a gypsy style black skirt! I must try…. 🙂
I love the look! My closet needs a seasonal changeover too but I’m not sure when it’s going to happen. This is Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada and then we’re off to Vancouver again to take care of my parents as Dad is not well. I have no idea how long we’ll be gone but I’m pretty sure I’ll need my warm winter wardrobe by the time we get back.
Happy Thanksgiving, Elaine!
Sorry to hear about your dad. Have a safe trip!
The blouse is very soft and feminine…and the picture of the dog totally hilarious…
Thanks Sara!
Hubby found it on the internet. He’s a sucker for dog humor and so am I! 🙂
To me it seems a great outfit. The blouse is lovely, especially dressed like Jeannie. The pants are pretty colors and make the proposal to be youthful and modern. The shoes, very beautiful. Jeannie in lovely weekend.
Moltes gràcies, Josep!
El teu dolç és molt apreciat! I love google translate! 😉
Love the polka dot blouse! You should wear it more often. So pretty, and I love it with the jeans.
Love the blouse too!
Thank you!
I’m a big fan of Revenge as well! 🙂
Thanks Heather!
This blouse is SO old, I can’t even remember when I bought it. I’m sure it’ll get more use now that polka dots seem to be in style….did it ever go out of style?
You did it!!!!!! Doesn’t it feel great to have a cleaned out closet? I A-dore, adore, adore, the polka dot blouse. I want it! And styled with emerald jeans and yellow Michael Kors…….YES! Casual chic at its best, beautiful! Thanks for the mention and have a blessed day!
Paula
stylist & polka dot lover
Yes I did! It took me half of Friday, but done done done! Thanks for posting your neat and organized closet…I would have waited till absolutely necessary b4 I tackled the job.
Polka dot lover?? Haha
Fascinating about the grapefruit. I remember the grapefruit diets from the 60’s and 70’s. Love your polka dots and green!
Thank you!
Yes, I think the grapefruit diet has been around a long time….I just never knew the reason why. I hope the study is legit b/c I’ll be eating a lot of grapefruit! 🙂
That last picture is so funny! Although my dogs haven’t been caught completely in the dishwasher .. they do tend to “help” me with the cleaning!!
The blouse is so pretty and feminine and the pants are perfect with it. Interesting about the grapefruit! I’ve known it’s good for you (vit. C) but I don’t prefer the cold fruit in the morning. My mom used to broil grapefruit with a little cinnamon on top.
xx
leslie
Warm grapefruit?? Hmmm.. sounds interesting!
I shall try your mom’s recipe. Thanks!
Polka dots in the fall….perfect. Great look!
Thank you Becky!
Hope you have a great week!
I LOVE the polka-dot blouse with the bright pants. It’s fun to pull oldies but goodies out of the storage closet and discover ways to update them. The early 80s are really ripe for picking right now with all the Oxblood, burgundy and teal out there as well. Just like the old-fashioned diets from back then, which inevitably involved grapefruit. It’s always good to see the science behind the diets that work. I’m definitely going to focus on getting my half grapefruit into more breakfasts again.
Haha. I agree with you! This is the reason I tell hubby why I don’t get rid of old things….they ALWAYS come back in style! 🙂
I’ll be adding more grapefruits to my diet also! Hopefully we’ll be healthier and a little lighter?! 😀
I love the romantic cuffs. It is a ‘magical coincidence’ that you should post about grapefruits! Jack and I are watching our diets and I was just now researching low glycemic foods, so, thank you for this info! Onto my grocery list too. Good luck! 🙂
Hi Patricia!
At my age, I find that I can’t eat the things I used to and get away with it anymore. If including grapefruit to my diet will be beneficial and keep the weight off, I’m all for it!
Good luck to you, too! We’ll have to compare notes later on.
We are also using coconut oil and cayenne pepper in tea to help speed up metabolism. btw, Jack and I cleaned out our closets yesterday, thanks to your inspiration! Have a great day!
Love the coloured jeans. And the shoes (as always). And the polka dots. Looking great! And yes, always love the dog(s).
Thank you Amanda!
Yes, the shoes…..<3
Beautiful look. And LOL at your dog. 😉
Thank you, Kiki!
It is a hilarious photo….thank goodness it isn’t my dog in the dishwasher! Hubby found the photo on the internet. Gotta tell you tho, my dog WOULD do that if he was allowed!
Mama J is always FAB looking – the crash of colors yet still complementing and the polka dots simply adds so much pizazz!
As always, I love all your shoes 😀 And i LOVE grapefruit, my mom fed me this whenever she has no time to make breakfast – half of it with sugar coating on the top ~ XO!
Haha! Your mom and I are so much alike! I put sugar on my grapefruit, too! Well, I use truvia now but it’s too sour for my taste. Thanks for the thumbs up for my crazy polka dot & green outfit. 🙂
I’m sticking to our organic brown sugar 😉
I really like the blouse, I love polka dots so it’s normal for me to like anything with polka dots. I also liked how you paired it with those color jeans…I would of pair it with white or black or blue jeans ( not creative ). I think the green looks really good go. Have a lovely day. God Bless
Hi Bre!
Thanks sweetie! Oh, I would usually wear it with something black as well. I went out of my comfort zone to pair it with green jeans….I thought it kinda worked. Glad you like it! 🙂
Have a blessed week!
You look great ” love the dogs!
Hi Claudia!
Thank you! Me, too! I’m crazy about them! 🙂
LOVE the blouse!!! LOVE black and white worn with color! I was wondering if I was at an age where I need not wear colored jeans……….you’ve changed my mind!!! LOVE the Tobie!! My cats know no boundaries, bad kitties…I bleach a lot, lol!
Judy, you so can wear colorful jeans!! Who says we’re too old?? 😀
Tobi would definitely do ANYTHING for food….dog or human. He’s a master beggar as well as a clever thief. He once pulled a cookie off the coffee table without our knowledge….well, until we found him licking the crumbs off the floor.
i love polka dots — and the asymetrical ones on your blouse are very cool. definitely nailed the look!
Thanks daisyfae!
This is why I hold onto things….who knew my very very old polka dot shirt would come back in style? 😉
