Salt & Pepper Pleeze!

Bonjour à tous!

My new project…learning how to say “hello everyone” in every major language.   I’m starting with French because it sounds so sexy! 😉

For every two or three bright outfits (which I love for this spring), I’m throwing in the neutrals to indulge my mature side.

An email from a friend who’s battling cancer…

As  I’ve aged, I’ve become kinder to myself, and  less critical of myself. I’ve become my own  friend.

I have seen too many dear friends  leave this world, too soon; before they  understood the great freedom that comes with  aging.

Whose business is it, if I choose  to read, or play, on the computer, until 4 AM,  or sleep until noon? I will dance with myself to  those wonderful tunes of the 50, 60 &70’s,  and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a  lost love, I will.

I will walk the beach,  in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging  body, and will dive into the waves, with  abandon, if I choose to, despite the pitying  glances from the jet set.

They, too, will get  old.

I know I am sometimes forgetful. But  there again, some of life is just as well  forgotten. And, I eventually remember the  important things.

Sure, over the years,  my heart has been broken. How can your heart not  break, when you lose a loved one, or when a  child suffers, or even when somebody’s beloved  pet gets hit by a car? But, broken hearts are  what give us strength, and understanding, and  compassion. A heart never broken, is pristine,  and sterile, and will never know the joy of  being imperfect.

I am so blessed to have  lived long enough to have my hair turning gray,  and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched  into deep grooves on my face. So many have never  laughed, and so many have died before their hair  could turn silver.

As you get older, it  is easier to be positive. You care less about  what other people think. I don’t question myself  anymore. I’ve even earned the right to be  wrong.

So, to answer your question, I  like being old. It has set me free. I like the  person I have become. I am not going to live  forever, but while I am still here, I will not  waste time lamenting what could have been, or  worrying about what will be. And I shall eat  dessert every single day (if I feel like  it).

MAY OUR  FRIENDSHIP NEVER COME APART, ESPECIALLY WHEN  IT’S STRAIGHT FROM THE  HEART!

  1. I like all your chic outfits and this letter from your friend has inspired me to give a little more love to myself.

  2. This made me cry! (in a good way), I have a very close friend who’s battling cancer too and I’m still in disbelief. This is very inspiring. You look gorgeous as always.
    C’est fantastique!

  3. Sorry to hear about your friend and chemo. Seems so unfair! What a beautiful email filled with so much wisdom.

Love your outfit… Classy… But especially your shoes!

  4. What a sweet email. That’s just the way life really should be lived…if only we could figure it out sooner rather than later.

  5. Jeannie, tu as tres jolie!
I love this post, not only do you look wonderful in noir and blanche, but you’ve included this very inspirational piece. I’m going to read it again later today when I have some quiet time….and to reflect.

    Have a lovely day!

  6. What an inspirational post! I agree with your friend….our hearts aren’t supposed to go through life pristine and sterile. They are made to be USED not put on a shelf! You look beautiful in black and white…one of my all time favorite combos!! Hugs! ~ Serene

    • Hi Claire!
My friend is a trooper! I get stressed over little things as well. What I need is a big banner that says “don’t sweat the little stuff” at home and the office as a reminder!
I’d say my favorite color(wardrobe) is BLACK…I’m just drawn to it for some reason.

  7. Nice return to the classical. Balance between color and cut. A jacket that I am impressed by its design. Perfect black and white. And the shoes! I can say? Impressive … Wonderful … Today’s outfit is simply gorgeous.

  8. I absolutely LOVE your outfit! I wish I could wear black and white but alas, they have always made me look completely washed out.

The message from your friend touched my heart. It contains so much wisdom.

  9. That email you from your friend is really speaking to me right now…thank you for sharing.

I feel the same way about the bright color thing. Sometimes I need to wear grey and black or white and beige just to change it up.

    Love those sexy shoes…meow!!

    xoxo, A
